  2. In my neighborhood lined with the hissing of busy backyards, over the fence gossip has it that the Copper Fire Bowl is overpriced, and that you might get similar results from using a concrete birdbath, but I have no such complaints about my purchase. Originally we planned to have one child stand there, at the entrance to the alley, lifting the firebowl aloft to mark the opening of the South of Market (San Francisco) “Spring Olympics,” for what would an Olympic Opening Ceremony be without a fire bowl swinging like an incense burner, held high by last year’s champion athlete (in our case, speller)? Then our plans got scaled back some when some of our neighbors converted to condos and half the children on the block moved to another part of the world.

Bring your copper fire bowl down to the beach at night, watch the ocean lit up through the seductive blue and orange flames of your safely contained campfire, throw on some chestnuts and marshmallows and you’ve got yourself a feast. And when you’re done, pick up the handy metal stand (black which sets off the pretty copper color nicely) and tuck it under your arm, head back to the car or bus. You could top it off with the pebble veranda cover, sort of like a tablecloth of stone for your fire bowl, but I have found it not the easiest item in the world to clean, and though the dogs don’t mind licking it off from time to time, I worry about their rough tongues somehow damaging or staining the pebble-like finish.

You could sit for hours watching the fire ebb and flame through the mesh like screen attachment, which is like watching a movie in 3-D, while feeling the heat on your face and along the long sweep of your legs as, cross-legged, you meditate on the sand or on the rugged crabgrass of your backyard barbeque area. Don’t be surprised when nearby forest animals, such as squirrels or rabbits, approach cautiously, drawn by the spectacle and the concomitant promise of warmth. You’ll see their eyes first, mindless blips among the hedges, and then you’ll see their sharp noses come bounding out like little kangaroos. Keep some nuts and carrots on hand for such nocturnal animal visitations.

  3. Hi,

i ordered this beautiful fire pit. I received it damaged from amazon. I wanted to replace it, but they didn’t, because the price changed. I found the same pit at traget, got it cheaper with free shipping. thanks amazon. the pit is great, but gets dented very easily and (sure) looses its color after using it. we already had great times with it.

  4. It’s a simple and attractive fire pit, as described and depicted. It comes with a cover, so don’t bother buying another one unless you need something that is really waterproof (the supplied one will leak a little if water is left in pockets for a while). The copper is on the thin side, so you shouldn’t bang it around a lot.

I only give it 4 stars because (a) the drain hole is too small, and (b) it should come with a grate to improve airflow around the base of fire. For the latter I just borrow the bottom grate from my Weber grill.

  5. I bought this for my parents for Christmas and they loved it. It’s even bigger than you can imagine and prettier, too.

  6. A very nice looking bowl. It didn’t come with a grate, so getting a fire going is sometimes a little difficult to do. Also, when it rains, the water tends to stay in the bowl since the hole in the bottom is very small. We got it late in the season and did not get to use it much yet, so we hope to work out those kinks next season.
